Orange County Fair Fun and Food

August 4, 2011 By Lokness Leave a Comment

Last Saturday, Bryan and I went to the Orange County Fair. Five years back, we went to the fair once. Because it was a really hot day, we didn’t stay there for more than 1 hour. In my memory, OC Fair wasn’t that fun. Man, I was wrong! I am so glad that we went this time. It was a lot of fun!!!

The really exciting thing was that I got to pet animals. The little chicks were adorable! But I was in love with the goats! Some of the goats really like to be petted. They walked close to Bryan and I to let us pet them. While being petted, they looked up at us and gave us some super cute looks… Awww…. I just couldn’t walk away from them.

Other than the animals, it was nice to see all the strawberry, pumpkin, beans, cucumber, mango plants. It was a good reminder to show us what our fruit and veggie plants look like.

Beans

Of course, I have to take about the food. Because Bryan and I only have two stomachs, we couldn’t eat everything. We got a turkey leg, one roasted corn, one order of onion rings, and the fried oreo. The turkey leg was huge. It looked a bit dry, but it was actually very tender and juicy. The smokiness gave the leg some extra flavors. It was good! The corn on the cob was good too. It was something more refreshing. Onion rings just didn’t make it. The batter was thick, and the onions were not sweet. I enjoyed the fried oreo. Bryan said they were like stuffed donut holes. They were tasty. If I can eat more, I would have the chocolate covered bacon, the fried klondike ice cream bar, and funnel cake. For the fried butter, I just couldn’t imagine what it is like. No, thank you! Fried kool-aid? I am not a fan of kool-aid, so I don’t care much.

Overall, I had a really good time. It was nice to walk around and see something cool. Next year? Yea, I actually want to go again! Heehee…. We will see.

When planning the trip to Denver, I realized Safta When planning the trip to Denver, I realized Safta @eatwithsafta is opened by the same chef who started Shaya in New Orleans. We went to Shaya back in 2019. Fantastic food & very memorable! So we knew we had to go to Safta.

Menu is very similar to Shaya. We ordered a bunch of stuffs & we enjoyed every single thing. That really doesn’t happen often. The food was perfectly balanced. Nothing felt heavy or overwhelming. That braised lamb shank fell off the bone w/ that creamy labneh & sweet pomegranate sauce. The charred cabbage was also phenomenal. Sweet & charred. Semifreddo was just the ending we hope for. Iced cold w/ strong coffee granita & rich chocolate.

We came w/ really high expectations, & we were very happy at the end of the meal. If you’re visiting Denver, do not think twice, you need to eat at Safta!

Being close to nature is the main goal of this Den Being close to nature is the main goal of this Denver trip. We hiked, saw a couple lakes & mountains, & got attacked by tons of mosquitoes. We were exhausted from the high altitude, heat & hiking, but felt amazing!

1) Hallet Peak & Dream Lake at the Rocky Mountain
2) Selfie
3) We got attacked by mosquitoes. Whenever we posed for pictures, the mosquitoes immediately attacked. If you look closely, you can see a mosquito near Bryan’s face. 🦟

It’s Friyay! All I can think about is this bagel It’s Friyay! All I can think about is this bagel from @bagelandslice. Tried this a couple weeks ago. Bagels are not overly chewy, just perfect. Lox was good w/ the scallion cream cheese. We got there early enough that the line was not long. Going back soon! Btw, they also do pizzas too!

Growing up, I looked forward to my mom’s mango p Growing up, I looked forward to my mom’s mango pudding every summer. That creamy & soft pudding is loaded w/ tons of fresh mangoes. My version is pretty much the same, but I switch out the mango-flavored gelatin mix for fresh mangoes. It tastes incredible & brings me back to my childhood right away! It was the perfect dessert when I was a kid, and it’s still the most satisfying dessert today! 🥭
