Miramar Air Show in San Diego

Our Big Mini & Super Hercules

Last Friday, Bryan and I went to San Diego for Miramar Air Show. This is the largest military air show and it was hosted in the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. A few years ago, when we were in Boston Logan Airport waiting for our plane, we saw Blue Angels arriving. Even since then, I am always curious about Blue Angels and hope to see them in action one day.

In early 2013, Blue Angels demonstration was cancelled for the rest of the year. It was such a disappointment. When we heard that they are coming back this year, we knew we have to check them out. We have planned for this trip for a few months. When the condo’s mess keep rolling bigger and bigger, we really thought about canceling the trip. But we ended up going after all. That was the best decision ever! It was a nice getaway!

The show was spectacular! Even though I know nothing about military planes, I really enjoyed the show. Just being able to be walk around a US marine base is awesome enough. Seeing giant military planes flying over our heads feels very unreal. They were fast, large, loud, and intimidating! It is nothing like watching videos or looking at pictures. My favorite has to be Blue Angels. The pilots flew so close together and kept a perfect distance in between while demonstrating different kind of maneuvers. Getting a glimpse of what our troops are doing everyday, I have a lot of respects for them.

Other than the shows, there were also many military planes on display. Many had their doors open and allowed people to get on and walk around. We were able to walk around a few carriers, like Super Hercules. The newest fighter aircraft, Lightning performed and were on display too.

If you get a chance, you got to check out the show. Admission is free and parking is free! Bring sunglasses, hats, sunscreen and many bottles of water, you will be all set.

It was! It was nothing like seeing the jets on TV. A truly amazing experience! If you kids love planes, they will love the show! And it is free admission.

We got to know each other through blogging. Betty is now a bakery owner (@beaucoupbakery) w/ 2 locations in Vancouver. Her pastries & patisseries are fantastic! The almond croissant and yuzu lemon tart were so good. I wish I have more time to try a few more things! Always next time, right?

My version is made w/ canned salmon & yuzu kosho (yuzu chili paste). It’s savory w/ little yuzu flavor & not spicy at all. Love them for lunch! They’re especially good when the rice is still warm.
