Snack: Ferrero Eggs

March 5, 2013 By Lokness 12 Comments

This Easter, Ferrero has pushed out a new product in the US, the Ferrero Eggs. There are two flavors: Hazelnut and Cocoa. When I saw them at Ralph’s last week, I grabbed a bag of the hazelnut one. Once I have tried it, I couldn’t stop eating. I ate 5 eggs continuously. If I have no health concern (that chocolate is not too healthy for you), I really would have finished all 10 eggs at once. This week, I went back to Ralph’s and got 3 bags. We will see how long they last.

A hard chocolate shell covers a thin layer of crispy wafer with a creamy chocolate filling. They remind me so much of Ferrero Rocher, but without the nut. I grew up eating Ferrero Rocher. I love them, but not a huge fan of the nut. When I am eating a Ferrero Rocher, I always eat the nut first, because I want to enjoy just the chocolate, wafer and creamy center on their own. Therefore, these eggs are perfect for me. No nut picking any more.

The hazelnut ones are must better than the cocoa ones. They are unique and different. The flavors of the cocoa ones are too simple and couldn’t stand out. Anyway, try them! Buy them before Easter is over.

Where to buy? I bought them at Ralph’s, but I don’t think all Ralph’s have them. You may have to check out a few stores. Please let me know if you see them somewhere else.

Hahaha… Thank you! I will! They actually have those in the UK too and probably many places in Europe.
I miss Kinder Surprise Eggs! Do you know that they are illegal in the US? The government worries that the toys will be dangerous for young kids. 🙁

Hahaha … I did hear about Kinder eggs being illegal in the US. When I first read this information from a newspaper, my mind was just full of question marks. The eggs has been sold in HK (and many other places) for years and so far I haven’t heard of any sad news (if ever). It’s really strange to imagine the US govn’t allows every household to keep a gun but not an egg!

Haha! Hope Americans like them! If they do well in the US, they may start to sell them everywhere in the world.

These eggs are so delicious, they do sell them in UK but you can only find them bigger supermarkets and they often ran out of stock ?

Do you know whether these Ferrero hazelnut eggs are available in Hong Kong? Many stores in HK sell Ferrero chocolate but our friends there have never seen these eggs. By the way, they are available at Winco, Walmart, CVS, Walgreen’s, Target, … in California for around $3 to $3.50 a bag. Best time to get them is right after Easter because they’ll be half off.

Since this is an easter thing, it maybe a bit hard to find now. I haven’t seen them for a while. Try special candy stores online. You may get some luck!

Spring time means berries. Let starts w/ Blueberry Spring time means berries. Let starts w/ Blueberry Thyme Jam! Sweet, lemony & earthy. A nice surprising combo, but both blueberry & thyme compliment each other really well. I once served this once w/ a slice of Basque cheesecake, & it was fantastic! The jam is good on all sort of things, like yogurt and charcuterie board. 🫐

When I think of comfort food, this Satay Beef Cell When I think of comfort food, this Satay Beef Cellophane Noodles in Clay Pot (沙嗲牛肉粉絲煲) definitely is up there on the top. One of my favorites to order in Hong Kong! It’s hearty & rich. That tender beef & noodles are coated w/ a savory & slightly sweet satay sauce. Little kick from the chili & the earthiness from the mushroom. Bold flavors! Please just give me a bowl of rice already! Btw, this takes only 30 mins to put together, which makes a great weeknight dish.

Maude (@mauderestaurant) has reopened & we’re ba Maude (@mauderestaurant) has reopened & we’re back! It closed down during the pandemic & eventually was selling sweet & savory pies for a while. Once we heard Maude was about to reopen, we made reservation. It’s a 9-course tasting menu w/ the focus on California cuisine this time. Everything was incredible. We chose to sit on the chef’s table & watched them plating & cooking. Precision & speed w/ lots of components. We had our many firsts, like cactus, caviar, & black truffle. Our favorites of the night were caviar w/ peas, abalone & bread w/ aged butter. We really love this place & look forward to going back soon!

Am I dreaming? Hailing in Pasadena? The mix of hai Am I dreaming? Hailing in Pasadena? The mix of hail & rain probably lasted for a good 30-minute. I was very excited at first, then it got crazy. Hail was collecting everything & my patio started to flood. I took out a broom & removed some of the hail. That worked, the water started to move & subside eventually. So glad my apartment wasn’t flooded. Whew! I have seen hailing, but this is another level. The ground was covered in hail. Really incredible!
